Our approach to the supercharger development is quite unique when it comes to design and production style. With a higher bar set for this project, our engineers chose to use the latest supercharger from Eaton Corporation: Twin Vortices Series TVS 1900. It is a 6th generation 4 lobe roots supercharger that supercedes the older 3 lobe MP90 and MP112. With the ability to rev to higher bearing speeds for longer periods, the TVS 1900 unit can be operated at lower speeds than the older unit and create more boost due to its displacement and higher efficiency. With more than 12 years experience in the forced induction industry, it was a natural progression for VF-Engineering to branch out and supercharge the naturally aspirated Audi S4 being a prime candidate for an FI upgrade, VF's relationship with GIAC USA, along with its use of state of the art technology, coordinate measuring machine (CMM) and Superflow air flow bench testing technologies set a firm foundation for that the ground work VF has committed for the Audi S4.VF-Engineering chose to supercharge the Audi S4 to improve throttle response and mid-to-top end power with a roots type Eaton MP90 supercharger. Maintaining the the original Audi quality, smoothness and reliability were the key factors in the VF design. This is where the GIAC software comes into full play. VF have harnessed reliability of Eaton superchargers and quality of GIAC custom software with their 10 years of supercharging experience and worldwide OEM supply contacts to create the ultimate supercharger system for the ultimate driver's car.All key components are 100% made in California. This system has been fully road tested and dyno tuned on GIAC's Mustang MD500AWD. The Audi S4 supercharger kit is setup at 5.0 psi and create as much, if not more power than similar products running greater levels of boost.VF engineers spent over 12 months testing and developing the Audi S4 supercharger kit. Software flash technology and latest Audi file versions have all been employed to provide the cleanest and most reliable method of software installation. GIAC engineers extensively re-wrote the ECU software using their own binary, assembly and disassembly algorithms written from scratch. Testing the software included extensive road and dyno test cycles, with acceleration and deceleration tests for driveability smoothness and ECU fuel management. One of the interesting features of the software recalibration we provide, is the development of software "switching". Using a small handheld unit that the user can plug into the OBD2 port, the software can be switched on the fly through different modes such as "Race gas" higher timing program for when you fill up with high octane, or "Valet mode" to reduce power for obvious reasons or "Kill mode" to lock the ECU. The GIAC software is electronically "flashed" into the ECUs through the OBD2 port with the optional modes. Our S4 supercharger system will included the fully loaded GIAC features. All test cars were put through long term full throttle testing in conditions varying from wet cold climates to hot dry Arizona desert temperature for safe-optimal air fuel ratios and knock activity monitoring. Competently-written ECU software has allowed VF to fully explore the potential of the Audi S4 engine, making over 40% more power in most applications.VF chose to mount the Eaton MP90 supercharger with an in-house CNC machined aluminum bracket system. Our approach to the supercharger development is quite unique when it comes to design and production style. The unit is positioned in line with the original serpentine belt which is replaced with a longer OEM belt. The key to this design is that the OEM active-spring belt tensioner remains fully functional and eliminates belt slip or the need to manually tension the belt. The supercharger air ducts are custom molded in-house from plastic to give an OEM appearance, quality and fit. The incorporated Bosch boost overrun system is designed for smooth off-throttle cruising and deceleration with clean emmissions. The crankcase ventillation sytem is designed to cope with positive pressure and high flow OEM injectors are supplied to fit as direct replacements without modification to the injector rail.
